It’s true some are (we love them)! However, many are not! As a student barrister I’m so very proud that the bar is a meritocracy working towards social mobility. As a student in secondary school I was not the most diligent student. I was always praised on my abilities but told my written work never really reflected this. It transpired later in education that I am dyslexic, a diagnosis given in my final year of my first degree. Inspired to ‘be the change I wanted to see in the world’ I became a teacher. I taught at one of the best grammar schools in the country, one of the most challenging alternative provisions and even delivered teacher training while working in senior leadership. I also completed a PGCE, a GDL and began my BPTC (which I complete next year). I completed this while acting as a carer for my grandmother, which I did for 7 years until she died. I now work full time managing child death review for 3 sub regions while completing a BPTC. I am a middle temple student rep and I compete in debate at ULAW. I also act under the pro bono legal advice scene also under ULAW. Nothing in life worth having is simple or easy, but it is the diversity we bring that is the bar. As a person who has not had a straight forward or simple journey, I can’t wait to add to that diversity. #iamthebar #studentbarrister #bptc #universityoflaw #middletemple clc87 (@clc87) posted on Instagram October 18, 2018 11:31
