I love Instagram. Especially law blogs. The positivity in the law industry is buzzing and it’s amazing to see 💫✨⭐️⁣ ⁣ The purpose of this post is NOT negativity. It’s to be real and to demonstrate sometimes how working in law can be (as with any other career, it’s not all rosy all the time is it...) 🥀🌹⁣ ⁣ 1. You will definitely (and most certainly as a trainee) work earlier than 9 and beyond 5 - without being paid extra for it and in most circumstances it’s expected if there’s a big project on. This generally depends law firm to law firm. ⁣ ⁣ 2. As you become more qualified are you going to know everything? NO. I know people who have years and years of experience and still don’t know everything. Being a lawyer isn’t about knowing everything so the quicker you get comfortable with this the easier it’ll be when you’re a trainee and later qualify. 💡⁣ ⁣ 3. Working in a law firm IS NOT LIKE the LPC. You may find snippets of the LPC helpful but work for real clients can be complex and forms/documents law firms use will usually be their house precedent so you may find your LPC notes not being 100% useful. 📚⁣ ⁣ 4. Egos. You’ll will meet not very nice people and that’s the truth. And this is with any career but particularly in law you will absolutely at some point in your career come across someone who may not appreciate your work as much as they should do or just have an awful ego and way about them. That’s not nice to deal with but will build your resilience (not an excuse for their behaviour, mind) which is a KEY skill in law 🔑⁣ ⁣ 5. Horrible clients. Again, this varies but unfortunately this is also something (rare) that could happen. You have to deal with a client who isn’t particularly pleasant to deal with, imagine doing this on a transaction projected to last 5 months and you’re the main point of contact - tedious. But - this will strengthen your skill to deal with difficult people which, in law, you come across all the time! Even in negotiations with the other side. 📞⚖️
